The Artist's Wife and His Setter Dog – Thomas Eakins Canvas Print

The Artist's Wife and His Setter Dog – Thomas Eakins Canvas Print

Thomas Eakins painted this portrait of his wife, Susan Hannah Macdowell, not long after they married. Macdowell was a serious painter and photographer in her own right, and the setting is the couple's own studio in Philadelphia, where they lived with their dog, Harry, in the mid-1880s. Eakins reworked the painting after it was first shown, likely around the same time he was forced out of his teaching post at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts over a classroom controversy, a rough period that may have shaped how he returned to this piece.

This canvas print is made from PolyCanvas fabric stretched over a sturdy wooden frame, printed with fade-proof sublimation printing and OEKO-TEX-certified inks. Made-to-order in Kolkata and shipped across India.

Frequently Asked Questions

Discover everything about our canvas prints.

What's the canvas print made from?

+

PolyCanvas fabric stretched over a sturdy wooden frame, printed with fade-proof sublimation printing and OEKO-TEX-certified inks, so there's nothing toxic in the print itself.

Will the print fade over time?

+

The sublimation printing is fade-proof by design, and holds up well under normal indoor light. Direct, constant sunlight will fade any print eventually, so we'd still avoid a spot that gets full sun all day.

How do I hang it?

+

Each canvas comes on a wooden frame, ready to hang. A single wall hook or nail through the back of the frame is usually enough.

How do I clean it?

+

A dry, soft cloth or a duster is enough for regular dust. Avoid water or cleaning sprays directly on the print.

Will the colors match what I see on my screen?

+

Screens vary a little from device to device, so there can be small differences, but we print from high-resolution source files to keep colors as close as possible to the original artwork.

Is this a real reproduction of the original artwork?

+

Yes. Each piece is printed from a high-resolution image of the original public domain painting, not a photo of a print or a low-quality scan.

Can I return or exchange this?

+

Since it's made-to-order, we can only accept returns for damage, defects, or the wrong item arriving, reported within 48 hours of delivery with photos. Full details are in our refund policy.

How long until it ships?

+

Every canvas is made-to-order, so it takes 2 to 3 business days to print and prepare before it ships from Kolkata.
