A huge wave curls over three fishing boats, Mount Fuji rendered small in the background, almost an afterthought next to the wave's own scale. It's part of Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, published in the early 1830s, and it reached Europe not long after, where it influenced artists from Van Gogh to Debussy.
